Ok, so this might sound like a rant, but I get really tired
of so-called gurus' sales letters and telling me how lucky
I am to be hearing from them at all because their time is
sooooooo valuable and they are soooo sought after, as
if it's supposed to impress me into a Pavlov's response
to purchase their stuff.
I also hate getting those super time sensitive offers to
buy extremely expensive internet marketing "secrets"
that will only be available for two weeks or until
tomorrow or until 20 copies or sold or whatever.
It gets old, jerking me around emotionally, using
manipulative sales language to get me to think they
have something incredible to offer that basically
guarantees overwhelming success.
Have I fallen for it in the past? You bet. Aren't we
all here trying to make a living and subject at times
to desperate feelings of, "When will it ever happen
for me?"
Which is exactly the state these so-called gurus want
you to be in. Many of them even go so far as to point
blank tell you that they buy everything under the sun
they can find about internet marketing in order to
learn - implying that you should too. What they don't
tell you is that many of those products are given to
them for free to review and those that aren't they buy
to watch their competition. They also fail to mention
that way back when they were in the same financial
stratosphere as you, there was no way they were
buying up everything they could find because they
couldn't afford to do it any more than you can now.
Sure, what they offer is useful, and could certainly
help you get ahead, but you don't have to shell out
$997 to get what you need to be successful.
I'll tell you right here - for free! Ok, you can send
me $997 if you REALLY want to. : ) Trust me on
this, I've paid out a lot of money buying many of
these products to learn (the hard way) what I'm
about to tell you.
I learned the hard way that you really need to decide
what you want before you proceed to go get it. If
you're not sure, do some free internet research before
shelling out hard-earned cash for an internet marketing
manual that, for example, focuses on pay-per-click
advertising when what you really want is step-by-step
instructions on writing great Google ads.
It really is a double-edged sword, so to speak, because
if you don't know your options, you can get lost for years
(literally!) poking around the internet learning about
storefronts, auctions, merchant accounts, clickbank
products, autoresponders, hosting accounts, affiliate
websites, affiliate programs and networks, pay-per-click
advertising campaigns, keyword placement, ezine creation,
article repositories, discussion groups and forums, etc.,
etc., etc......And the next thing you know, you know a lot
about the techniques and tools, but you still aren't making
any money because you haven't started your business yet.
So just do it. Seriously. You HAVE to take action to
succeed. You have to get over the fear that you'll do
something wrong. If you do, you fix it, but you have to
put yourself out there and just do it. Oh, and even if you're
worried that whatever you start with isn't really what you
want to do, do it anyway. You can always make changes
later and hopefully you'll have made some money in the
meantime - which you certainly would not have made
by not putting anything out there. Get started today and
make it urgent!
If a guru's internet marketing manual looks to be perfect
for what you want to accomplish, by all means get it and
use it. But first, decide what you want and plan out how
to go get it. Don't get mired in the guru-speak hard sell
language about how what they are doing will make you
millions. Don't buy everything under the sun in order to
study it before you get started. Could they all be helpful
to you? Absolutely. But would you really have time to
study and implement everything proposed in all of them?
To avoid information burn-out, if you must, buy just one
and then don't even look at the rest until you have done
everything the one manual suggests. In addition (and you
can do this for free), join or regularly visit a helpful online
forum or discussion group to ask for feedback as your
website/business is being built. A good group like this is
worth millions more than any manual anyone could sell
you. In the end, you'll come out a lot happier - and a
lot richer too!
