Have you noticed? The Internet has revolutionised the world of work in the short space of a decade. Stay at home moms and anyone preferring to work from home can now earn mega dollars from the comfort of their own loungeroom. The market is now the global market: billions of potential customers turn on their computer every day. It has become understandably popular to run a home-based Internet business. Why is it, then, that so many try and fail? This article outlines seven of the most common mistakes people make in running a home based Internet business, so that you may avoid the pitfalls and turn your hard work into cash, as you deserve!
The wrong product can quickly put you on the wrong foot. Make sure you have a product that people want and that people are searching for on the internet. No matter how great you may think it is, if no one is looking for it then no one will buy it. Before starting find some search tools on the internet such as google search tools and check out how many people are searching the net looking for your item.
A pile of product sitting in your garage can cost you a fortune. Many make the mistake of purchasing a pile of goods that collect dust in their garage awaiting sales. What a waste of your money. There are many manufacturers and wholesalers out there who are more than happy to have you sell their product for them. Better still in my opinion, is a digital product that takes up no space and is delivered immediately at no cost to you. In fact, the biggest selling product on the internet is information. Educational information is known as webucation.
Do not sell low priced items with small profit. The reason for this is that you will need a huge number of sales before you make any money at all. This is time-consuming and can become frustrating. Rather, consider choosing a high priced item to market, such as one costing a thousand dollars or more. Ask yourself, how many 20 dollar items would you need to sell to make the same profit as a single one thousand dollar sale? This will encourage you to steer away from low priced items. Some have acheived success selling low priced items, but generally speaking it means more work and requires many more sales, which is not ideal.
Don't forget to do your homework! So many get into trouble because they jump in to some internet selling business which sounds good but does not deliver as promised. After a while you get a feel for a good business proposition, but only if you thoroughly investigate. So, for those of you buying into an online business already established, ensure that you thoroughly know their business plan and product.
Only purchase programs which provide full support to you. You will certainly need support as you embark on the journey. All too often the promised support ceases after they've got your money. It can be very lonely battling through the setting up process. The best home based internet businesses are those which provide limitless support from real people, and people who have succeeded doing the same thing. Look for a sizable number of testimonials from a variety of people in different countries. Even better, find someone local who can talk to you in person about their experiences. You can then learn from their success.
Business planners, accountants and tax agents are your friends and you must not avoid them! See them very early in the process of establishing your internet home-based business if you want to save yourself serious grief later on. They will help you with tax issues, insurance, financial record keeping, business registration etc. Even if these issues do not thrill you, get them sorted out and early. You will be asked for some of this information in places and sites as you progress anyway, and if you don't have the information at your fingertips, you'll be sorry.
Get help. Don't be a Robinson Crusoe! Tap the enormous resources on the net which are there for your perusal and widen your knowledge about all aspects of your product and of business in general. If you're lucky enough to have an active local council which runs seminars and workshops for those in business, take advantage of these wonderful opportunities. Work the room! Meet people in the same boat as you and be of mutual benefit to each other. Run ideas by them and exchange business cards. Who knows when you'll need each other's products? These people can be a great help and support.
Poor time management is a major obstacle to many who are attempting to make their home based business successful. Families often complain that they see too little of their parent or spouse and it is easy to become overwhelmed with fitting everything in. Children sometimes think mom or dad are fair game for interruption when they're a stationery target in the home office! The key is planning. Work out how many hours you want/need to work per day and write a schedule, then stick to it. Make sure everyone in the family is agreeable to that schedule. Put a copy of your work schedule up on the fridge where it is clearly visible. Once this schedule becomes habit, you will be able to be more flexible on occasions which warrant flexibility. Afterall, flexibility is one of the greatest advantages of home based business. It is said that customers can tell if you're still in your pyjamas when they ring you at home, so consider getting up early, showering and changing into work clothes before you start your work day.
It's totally possible for you to make big money from home. I know people who have amazing stories to tell about how it is working for them. By reading, listening to advice, getting organised, thinking creatively and of course, avoiding these pitfalls, you too may one day be writing these kinds of articles! All the very best with your home based business!
